The consortium is composed by universities, research centers, companies and incubators that will lead the current prototype in the market of medical devices.

UNIVERSITY OF VERONA

The University of Verona (UNIVR) was born 40 years ago, giving autonomy to a spin-off of the University of Padua. Within UNIVR, the Department of Engineering for Innovation Medicine (DIMI) aims to promote teaching and research in the design and application of new technologies in the healthcare sector. The ALTAIR Robotics laboratory is an Italian center of excellence in the research and development of advanced robotic systems. Over the years it has obtained numerous Italian and EU grants, developing extensive knowledge in the field of robotic surgery.

ACMIT

ACMIT is an EN ISO 13485-certified research and development center in the field of medical technology that works on application-oriented research and development with the goal to bring concepts/ideas to clinical use, to make medical applications safer and more efficient.

UNIVERSITAT KLINIKUM

The Department of Urology of the University of Freiburg – Medical Centre (UKLFR) has been treating patients for over 40 years and is a certified center for the diagnosis and treatment of prostate cancer. Each year, more than 400 MRI-targeted prostate biopsies are performed at the UKLFR and more than 200 patients undergo radical prostatectomy. This high number of cases results in a high level of expertise in the field of prostate biopsy and provides a reliable and well-founded clinical background knowledge.

NEEDLE EYE

Needleye Robotics Srl (NDLY) is a spin-off of the University of Verona, founded in 2022 to translate the robotics and AI technologies developed in the robotics laboratory ALTAIR, into commercial products. NDLY is capitalizing on the results of 4 ERC grants, which led to the development of the first PROST prototype, tested in laboratory and cadaver experiments. In ROBIOPSY, NDLY will integrate ACMIT mechanical prototype and UNIVR AI software algorithms into a product prototype that will be tested by the clinical partners at the Universities of Verona and Freiburg.
